    • Valid valueDescription
Cs137The isotope 137Cs is present, and peaks at 32 and 661 keV are observable and suitable for gain and offset adjustment.
Am241+K40Photopeaks associated with gamma rays at 59 and 1460 keV are observable, and these peaks can be used for gain and offset adjustment. The isotope 241Am must be present to observe a peak at 59-keV. Although a peak at 1460 keV is generally observable in background spectra, additional potassium may be present to produce a well-defined peak at 1460 keV.
NoneDo not adjust the energy calibration. This has the same effect on not declaring the EnergyCalibrationAdjust element for the spectrum.
Eu152The 4 peaks at 122, 344, 779, and 1408 keV provide ability to perform at least a cubic fit to the energy calibration. The photopeak at 2614 keV from background would also be required to calibrate the entire energy range.
NORMCharacteristics associated with naturally occurring radioactive materials can be used for calibration. Calibration based on the natural background is most applicable for HPGe detectors, which have sufficient resolution to resolve peaks associated with the natural background radiation.
ThoriumAt a minimum, photopeaks associated with gamma rays at 238 and 2614 keV are observable. Although thorium is a naturally occurring isotope, associated gamma rays are not always observable in background spectra, particularly at low energy. Therefore, this declaration implies that additional thorium is present in the vicinity of the detector.
La138Observable features are associated with internal 138La, which is a naturally-occurring isotope present in all LaBr3 and LaCl3 detectors. Features that are suitable for calibration purposes are peaks near 37 and 1460 keV. Both of these peaks result from coincident radiation, and they are not associated with discrete gamma rays occurring at these energies.
Bi207The 4 peaks at 75, 569, 1063, and 1770 keV provide ability to perform at least a cubic fit to the energy calibration. The photopeak at 2614 keV from background would also be required to calibrate the entire energy range.
K40A photopeak at 1460 keV is observable and can be used for gain adjustment.
